OVER $106,000 RAISED AT 4th ANNUAL GBC GOLF MARATHON

golfers
On May 24th, 2004 a group of wonderful men and women descended on Norton Country Club . . . many of whom were there before 7:00 am . . . to play at least 50 holes of golf and most played 100 holes . . . yes that many holes of golf in one day! The rain held out as our golfers chased, hacked, chipped and beat hundreds of little white balls from early morning until dinner. Their commitment to this organization, their willingness to ask friends, family, business colleagues, neighbors and anyone who would listen, for sponsorship brought in over $106,000 for the Chapter’s programs.

GBC is fortunate to have dedicated individuals and companies supporting our work. All the money raised at the Marathon is being used to enhance the Chapter’s two cornerstone programs, the Early Intervention and Peer Visitation Programs. As you know, these programs give the newly injured and their families the confidence, support, and encouragement they need to adjust to their new lives. It has been extremely challenging the past few years for the Chapter to meet the needs of the community in light of dramatic funding cuts and a downturn in charitable giving. This marathon infuses the Chapter with much needed funding to sustain those two programs.

HEARTFELT THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO OUR MISSION AND FOR RAISING FUNDS FOR OUR PROGRAMS:

MOLLY ALGER BILL BENJES VIN CLARK
JOHN EHLINGER DOUG EWING BOB GIBSON
DAVE GOOLGASIAN STEVE HOFFMAN KLAUS JENSEN

F1 Boston’s 4th Annual Corporate Fight Night Wonderful Event . . .
Over $12,000 Raised for the GBC

On May 20th, 2004 close to four hundred people attended a great event that showcased eight bouts of amateur boxing, a casino, a fashion show, billiards and live and silent auctions. The annual corporate networking event sponsored by F1 Boston at their Braintree facility attracts the area’s largest businesses and each year they choose a nonprofit organization to showcase and receive the proceeds from the evening’s activities.

Bob Lobel was the Master of Ceremonies and the area’s largest businesses were well represented. The food, the fights and the company all made the event a truly great experience.
F1 was extremely generous to choose GBC as the recipient of the proceeds from the evening’s events. F1 gave GBC the opportunity to share its mission with an audience that would not otherwise be exposed to our work. Board President Bill Benjes, Treasurer and Vice President Glenn Mangurian, Development Vice President Josh Merrow, Board Members Maureen McKinnon-Tucker and Michael Ferriter as well as staff represented GBC and enjoyed the festivities. Glenn Mangurian addressed the crowd and talked about GBC’s programs.

GBC is extremely grateful to R.J. Valentine, Karen Quast and Glen Ransden all of F1 Boston and our Board Treasurer, Glenn Mangurian who made the event happen. F1’s commitment to our work will ensure that those individuals affected by spinal cord injury will have access to our services.

F1 Boston, located in Braintree, is an entertainment and function facility that offers a variety of activities for just about everyone. Whether you are interested in racing one of their expertly engineered F1 karts, challenging a friend to a game of billiards, listening to one of the area's popular bands or having dinner in their top rated restaurant . . . you will find it all under one roof at the F1 facility. Please take a moment to learn more about F1 by visiting their website at www.f1boston.com or visiting them at their Braintree location.
