GBC Programs and Activities
- Provide Information & Resources
By phone, website, email and office visits - the
GBC provides information on a variety of issues regarding spinal cord injury.
- Early Intervention Program
A GBC Staff person meets people with new spinal cord injuries while they are in the rehabilitation hospitals and provides information and guidance to resources and services.
- Peer Visitor Program
Trained peer mentors act as positive role models, offering their assistance to those with SCI. Peers are there
to answer questions, confide in and to provide useful techniques for adjusting to a new way of life. The GBC has over 40 trained peers.
- Support/Discussion Group Meetings
One of the best ways people with spinal cord injury learn is from each other.
Held at several locations throughout the state.
- Advocacy & Housing
When issues affect people with disabilities, especially health and social issues,
the GBC will advocate for the benefit of those affected, by
speaking at the State House, talking to Legislators, and helping to support or defeat a bill.
Housing information assistance is provided to those looking for housing.
- Equipment & Van Give Away
Equipment for people with disabilities is donated to the GBC and given to a person with SCI. Used vans with wheelchair lifts are donated to the GBC and a selection process is used to determine which individual the van will benefit the most. The GBC has given away seven vans in the past six years.
